Without knowing exactly what you are doing -- if you are offering a service to small and medium business, I would start by simply picking up the phone and talking to the owners live. If you make 100 such phone calls and have 20 real conversations with people, you'll very likely discover that what you thought was the perfect idea needed a bit of tweaking, but now you'll have the knowledge to do that.

Before you embark on any real marketing for yourself, it's critical that you get your message nailed down tight. If you don't, there's no way to tell if it's the message that's wrong, the product/service that's wrong, or the marketing channel that's wrong. Get it locked in, then start your marketing efforts, and you'll save yourself a lot of worry and stress.
